This year I decided to set a few goals for myself. Most of them don’t require alot of effort, such as #3 “Knit something that actually looks like something.” or #5 “paint the house” which, thanks to our handyman for hire Jeremiah, was accomplished in January. However there is one goal I have set for myself that is almost ridiculous. Ready, here goes. #1 Run a half-marathon!
Now, I know there are tons of people out there in TV land that are marathon runners. You people are insane. I see your kind running in shorts in mid-winter along the interstate at night. Or hear comments like, “oh yea, I ran 156 miles today and didn’t break a sweat.” Ok, maybe I made that one up, but that’s what it sounds like to me when you talk about any distance above, say, running to the car and back. So, for me, to say I’m going to run a half-marathon is kind of unreal.
I’ve always enjoyed exercise. I even have ran…jogged…did something faster than walking, in some 5k races. This is great and all, but 3.1 miles is a whole lot different than 13.1 (ten extra miles, TEN!).
The race is April 24th in Louisville, KY to kick off the Derby. I have convinced my friend Julie to do it with me. We are currently in the middle of our training schedule and completed our 8 mile (she says 8.5) run today. Let’s just hope for something faster than walking.
And if one of you insane marathon runners see me on the side of the road, atleast check to see if I’m breathing before you sprint on to the finish line.
